Welcome To Worship

Welcome to worship, in this time of Coronavirus, lockdown and economic slowdown we remember today that Jesus came to give us rest and guide us to life in all its fullnesss.

Beatitudes - Good News Productions International and College Press Publishing used with permission

Be still and rest in the peace of God.
Be strong and trust in the tranquility of God.
Be quiet and rejoice in the beauty of God.
Be open and be drawn into the depths of God.
Be courageous and set sail in the sea of God.
Be yourself and be enveloped in the heart of God,
who has made all things, loves all things,
redeems all things, today and always.

Opening Prayer

Jesus, remembered on the mountainside,
teaching the people near you as you looked beyond to a world of need,
help us to hear your call today.
Turn us outwards, beyond ourselves,
Help us to see as clearly as you do the needs that we could meet.
Stir in us a hunger and thirst for justice to be done,
and a readiness to live simply that others may simply live.
Grant us courage to face the bitterness, resentment and misunderstanding
that can come with following you.
Inspire us to be heralds of your kingdom and the instruments of your love,
for the sake of the God who accepts us and grants us life in its fullness.Amen

For All the Saints

Prayer of Praise

Dear Jesus,

thank you that you bless us – and often when life is hard:
when we know we are poor in spirit – you bless us ,
when someone that we love has died – you stay close to us ,
when we are humble and meek in your presence – you bless us ,
when we are desperate for things to work out fairly – you hear us ,
when we are merciful to other people – you bless us ,
when we are trying to live pure and holy lives – you reveal yourself to us ,
when we make peace between people – you bless us ,
when people are horrid to us for following you – you help us to rejoice in your love. Amen.

With a great cloud of witnesses around us,
we try to run the race that lies ahead.
Help us, God of truth, to lay aside every weight
and the sin that restricts our movement.
Forgive us for the times we have failed to clothe ourselves in love
and enable us to fix our eyes on Jesus,
in whom we have found our hope.

God of holiness, your glory is proclaimed in every age:
As we rejoice in the faith of your saints,
inspire us to follow their example with boldness and joy;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Bible Reading (Matthew 5:1-12)

1Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2and he began to teach them.

The Beatitudes

He said:
3“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.
5Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
    for they will be filled.
7Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God.
9Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

A Prayer of Declaration

Let us declare our faith in God.

We believe in God the Father,
from whom every family in heaven and earth is named.
We believe in God the Son,
who lives in our hearts through faith, and fills us with his love.
We believe in God the Holy Spirit,
who strengthens us with power from on high.
We believe in one God;
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Prayers of Intercession

Prayer of Peace for the children of God by Bishop Desmond Tutu

O God, All Holy One, you are our Mother and Father, and we are your children. Open our eyes and our hearts so that we may be able to discern your work in the Universe and be able to see your features in every one of your children.

May we learn that there are many paths but all lead to you. Help us to know that you have created us for family, for togetherness, for peace, for gentleness, for compassion, for caring, for sharing.

May we know that you want us to care for one another as those who they are sisters and brothers, members of the same family, your family, the human family.

Help us to beat our swords into ploughshares and our spears into pruning hooks, so that we may be able to live in peace and harmony, wiping away the tears from the eyes of those who are less fortunate than ourselves. And may we know war no more, as we strive to be what you want us to be: your children. Amen

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

God of all the Saints, who pours out blessings to all who to turn to Him. Thank you, for all that you have given us in our lives. Help our hearts to be filled with your love and compassion, that we may be willing to offer up our gifts to you and the work of your Kingdom in this world.

Almighty and everlasting God,
who enkindles the flame of your love in the hearts of the saints,
grant unto us the same faith and power of love;
that as we rejoice in their triumphs,
we may profit by their examples.
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.
