Our Gospel Reading for this Sunday: John 17.1-11

Jesus prepares his disciples to lead his church

1After Jesus said this, he looked towards heaven and prayed:

‘Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

6‘I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. 7Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. 8For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. 9I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. 10All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. 11I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.

New International Version of the Bible

Collect for Today

Risen, ascended Lord, as we rejoice at your triumph, fill your Church on earth with power and compassion, that all who are estranged by sin may find forgiveness and know your peace, to the glory of God the Father. Amen.

GENEROUS JUNE – Understanding God’s Generosity - June 2020, Whitewater

We shall be using a new resources from Sheffield and Winchester Dioceses. During the COVID-19 pandemic we have seen an incredible show of generosity across our country. More often than not when we see people in need, we want to help. This month we have the opportunity to show how generosity originates in Jesus Christ, and that through his example, we can see this generosity reach further into our villages, towns and cities. We shall have daily podcasts to listen to, and Sunday sermon materials from our Bishops, to go with midweek study materials. Generous June topics: Sun 7th June - ‘the Rich Ruler’ Luke 18.18-30; Sun 14th June – Luke 12.13-21, ‘the rich fool’; Sun 21st June – Luke 19.1-10, ‘Zacchaeus’; Sun 28th June – Luke 21.1-4, ‘The Widow’s mite’. www.generousjune.co.uk
