candle

You may like to light a candle as a reminder that the love of God is like a light in our darkness.

Welcome To Worship

Welcome to our worship as we are gathered in heart and spirit if not in physical proximity with one another.  It is a reminder that the church is not the building but rather it is the people of God who are the church.

Opening Prayer

Faithful One, whose word is life: come with saving power to free our praise, inspire our prayer and shape our lives. For the kingdom of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Throughout the month of June we are reflecting together on the Generosity of God towards us, in the readings, prayers and talk. We have a thematic prayer for the whole month:

Generous June Thematic Prayer

Father God,
please help us to understand clearly the generosity that you have shown,
in giving us your Son, Jesus Christ.
Help us to understand that you ask us to show the same generosity
in all that we say and do,
including in how we prioritise the way in which we use our finances and possessions.
We thank you for the blessings that financial stability offers us,
but ask that you would help us in our understanding of how to flourish in the area of giving,
so that we can develop practically and spiritually
and come into closer communion with you.
Amen.

Confession

Lord,
when we avoid the hard questions that you ask;
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Jesus,
when we fail to trust you for our futures;
Christ, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.

Lord,
when we cling to tightly to our possessions;
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Absolution

May Almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins,
and keep us in eternal life. Amen

Collect

Father of all,
you loved the world so much that you gave your only Son,
and you pour out your Spirit in a continuing activity of grace.
May we be so caught up in the richness of your grace
that our own giving is renewed
and our own selves refreshed by the living water of Jesus,
in whose precious name we pray.
Amen

Gospel Reading (Luke 18:18-30)

18 A certain ruler asked Jesus, ‘Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?' 19 ‘Why do you call me good?’ Jesus answered. ‘No one is good—except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: “You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honour your father and mother.”’ 21 ‘All these I have kept since I was a boy,’ he said. 22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, ‘You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.’ 23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy.24 Jesus looked at him and said, ‘How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! 25 Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” 26 Those who heard this asked, ‘Who then can be saved?’ 27 Jesus replied, ‘What is impossible with man is possible with God.’28 Peter said to him, ‘We have left all we had to follow you!’ 29 ‘Truly I tell you,’ Jesus said to them, ‘no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God 30 will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come eternal life.’

Hymn

Will you come and follow me

A Prayer of Declaration

We believe in God the Father,
from whom every family
in heaven and on earth is named.
We believe in God the Son,
who lives in our hearts through faith,
and fills us with his love.
We believe in God the Holy Spirit,
who strengthens us
with power from on high.
We believe in one God;
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Amen

Prayers

A Prayer for Giving

Heavenly Father, give grace to us, the living stones who form your Church, to reflect prayerfully at this special time on our love for you and our neighbour. Make us mindful of the many gifts you bestow upon us. We ask that your Holy Spirit will inspire and direct us in our choice of giving, remembering that we are only giving back that which is truly yours. Strengthen us, Lord, to meet this challenge according to your will.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord who has given all that we might live.
Amen.

We pray for grace and strength
to live as those accountable before God,
saying:

Lord, in your mercy,
make us faithful stewards of your goodness.

We pray for the leaders of nations,
for honesty, integrity, justice and compassion
 in national and international politics
and especially in the area of debt
and in race relations.

Lord, in your mercy,
make us faithful stewards of your goodness.

We pray for the Church in all the world.
May all you have called to leadership
have renewed passion for the Gospel,
eagerness for the health of the Church,
and accountability in all their ways,
that they may reflect the glory of Christ.

Lord, in your mercy,
make us faithful stewards of your goodness.

We pray for the sick and the sorrowing
and all who need your healing touch.
We pray for those known to us,
those in the Whitewater community,
friends and family…
take a quiet moment to name people before the Lord now
For the Church’s ministry of healing and caring.
Lord, may we give realistically
so that your Church may minister effectively.

Lord, in your mercy,
make us faithful stewards of your goodness.

Father, we bless you
for all who have gone before us in the faith of Christ,
and especially we remember those who have recently died,
Judy Crockford, Gordon Black, John Mandry, and their families.

Lord, in your mercy,
make us faithful stewards of your goodness.

Finally, for ourselves, Lord God of truth,
help us to keep your law of love

and to walk in ways of wisdom and generosity,
that we may find true life
in Jesus Christ your Son.
Amen

Merciful Father
Accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son
our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen

The Lord's Prayer

As our Saviour taught us, so we pray,

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen

The Peace

We are the body of Christ.
In the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body.
Let us then pursue all that makes for peace and builds up our common life.

The peace of the Lord be always with you.

Amen.

Offertory

Let us consider all that God has done for us,
especially as we see this in Jesus.
‘Count our blessings’
and respond with appropriate generosity from our material wealth.

Reflecting on Holy Communion

At this time when we cannot gather to share Holy Communion with one another we take some time to reflect on what it means to each of us that Jesus gave his own life that we might live life in freedom.

1 Corinthians 11: 23 - 26

23For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: the Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,24and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, ‘This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.’25In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.’26For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

Eternal God, giver of love and power,
your Son Jesus Christ has sent us into all the world
to preach the gospel of his kingdom:
confirm us in this mission,
and help us to live the good news we proclaim;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

Blessing

May the Holy Spirit who gives gifts to all people,
flood your hearts with thanksgiving to God.
And the blessing of God Almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.    Amen

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.
