Welcome To Worship

Welcome to worship, in this time of Harvest in the middle of the Coronavirus pandemic, we remember today that our Creator God supplies all that we need in life and we give thanks.

Wonderful World (image from John Paul Stanley /

Be still and rest in the peace of God.
Be strong and trust in the tranquility of God.
Be quiet and rejoice in the beauty of God.
Be open and be drawn into the depths of God.
Be courageous and set sail in the sea of God.
Be yourself and be enveloped in the heart of God,
who has made all things, loves all things,
redeems all things, today and always.

Opening Prayer

God in Christ has revealed his glory.
Come let us worship.
From the rising of the sun to its setting
the Lord’s name is greatly to be praised.
Give him praise, you servants of the Lord.
O praise the name of the Lord! Amen

All Heavem Declares

Prayer of Praise

Divine Sculptor,
You have fashioned the universe and all that is in it.
You have created the earth with all its abundance.
You have made your people in all our variety
and placed us here to act justly and to seek peace.
Around us the sights and sounds of nature
echo the song of praise your people offer to you.

For the variety and splendour of the universe
God of time and eternity, receive our songs of praise.

Lord God, sometimes we forget the glory of your creation; the moon that times the seasons, the stars that shine at night in such beauty and the sun which gives us warmth, wind and rain. We are sorry we forget to say Thank you God for all you have made.
Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy

Lord God when we forget about your glory in creation we can also forget that you made this world for all people. We are sorry that we forget about you, we forget about the needs of other people. Help us share the produce from your creation with others.
Christ have mercy
Christ have mercy

Lord God, when we forget that you are Lord of Creation, we fail to take good care of this planet in the way you asked us to. We pollute the air and leave rubbish in the ground, help us to treat your creation with respect.
Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy

We are sorry and ask for your forgiveness.
May the Father of all mercies cleanse us from our sins and restore us in his image to the praise and glory of his name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Creator God, you make all things and give us the earth and the seasons, the rain, the sun and the wind;
Make us thankful people with generous hearts, ready to share your goodness and love with all creation;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Bible Reading (Genesis 1:14-19)

The Fourth Day

14And God said, ‘Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.’ And it was so. 16God made two great lights – the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19And there was evening, and there was morning – the fourth day.

Psalm 19:1-6

1How clearly the sky reveals God's glory!
    How plainly it shows what he has done!
2Each day announces it to the following day;
    each night repeats it to the next.
3No speech or words are used,
    no sound is heard;
4yet their message goes out to all the world
    and is heard to the ends of the earth.
    God made a home in the sky for the sun;
5  it comes out in the morning like a happy bridegroom,
    like an athlete eager to run a race.
6It starts at one end of the sky
    and goes across to the other.
    Nothing can hide from its heat.

A Prayer of Declaration

We believe and trust
in God the Father who made the world.

We believe and trust
in His Son, Jesus Christ, who redeemed the world.

We believe and trust
In the Holy Spirit who gives life to the people of God

Prayers of Intercession

God, who created the moon, sun and stars, as we look to creation we praise you for the harvest you have brought to us. We come today to ask you for what we need and thank you for all that you have done.

Creator God – Hear our Prayer

Creator of the Sun, we think of the life the Sun gives us. For the way the way the Sun provides light and warmth so plants can grow and animals live. We thank you for the abundant food we have on earth. We pray for those who do not have enough to eat, people who live in lands where the harvest has not been good this year, people who live in rich countries but can’t afford basic necessities. We pray that you will be with the hungry and help us to show your love by doing what we can to care for others.

Creator God – Hear our Prayer

Creator of the moon, we think of the way the moon marks out the different times of the year and controls the tides on the sea. We thank you for times of celebration when we can come together to remember what you have done for us both in good times and in difficult times, help us not to forget that we are children of God and need you in our lives. We thank you for the sea and all it provides to us from being a source of rain to the animals and its effect on climate. We pray that we will remember that it is your creation and not our creation, help us to look after the seas and do what we can to reduce plastic waste in the sea and reduce the effects of climate change.

Creator God – Hear our Prayer

Creator of the stars, we think of the way they mark out the vastness of your Creation pointing to solar systems millions of light years away. The stars do not rule our lives so we pray that we can our hearts to your rule of life. We pray for those we know who are ill at the moment and need our prayers, for those around the world suffering from Coronavirus or the economic fallout as people lose their jobs. Please guide governments as they deal with the problems in the world and help them work together for the benefit of all people.

As we look at the stars we remember those people who were stars in our lives, beacons of brightness but who are no longer with us, we thank you for all they brought to us and we think of them now and give thanks.

Creator God – Hear our Prayer

God, who created the moon, sun and stars we offer all this to you and pray that you will hear our prayers in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Amen

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

At harvest we remember that all good gifts around us are sent from heaven above. As we feel the warming sun that swells the grain, the beauty of the stars and the moon that marks the seasons, we offer to our Creator God our offering to thank him for all his love.
