Support for Refugees

In response to Hart Voluntary Action's campaign to support Afghan refugees, St John's is looking to provide certain items and, where possible, help with ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)/literacy skills as well as befriending families once they are settled.

We have been asked by Hart Voluntary Action whether we can provide urgently the following items for Afghan refugees being re-settled in Hampshire and other areas in the UK:

  • packs of NEW underwear (briefs only) for boys (any age 4 to 15) and men (sizes small, medium or large)
  • new or good quality holdalls (able to take 6 or 7 items)/day rucksacks (c 30 litres).
  • There is still the opportunity to donate to the cost of purchasing an item. You can do so by clicking on PCC of St John's Church, Hook Supporting Afghan refugees

Any items should be delivered to the Benefice Office at St John's and will be passed on to the HVA.   Any surplus funds raised will be donated to the British Red Cross Afghanistan Crisis appeal.
