ReadingsNew Testament ReadingToday’s reading comes from Paul’s letter to the church in Corinth. It was written in about AD55, and Paul reveals his passion for this local church, and that these people would come to know faith in Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:3-63And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.6For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. Gospel ReadingMark 9:2-92After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. 3His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. 4And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus. PrayersAs we gather in God's presence, let us pray A Prayer for FaithHeavenly Father, Prayers of IntercessionThe response to Lord of love is: Hear our prayer. Lord of love: Hear our prayer. We thank you Lord, for the light that you shine into our hearts that enables us to have transformed lives of purpose and hope. We pray for those who are in a fog, or in despair, who are struggling for whatever reason. We pray that you will send help, and bring light into their lives, and a new relationship with you. May they come to understand your saving grace, your power and a totally new perspective on life. Lord of love: Hear our prayer. We pray for nations around the world that are not living in freedom at this time. We pray particularly for Myanmar, for Archbishop Stephen and his family, for Rev’d Canon Paul and his family, for Holy Cross Theological college and for all Christians serving you in that land. We pray for peace and justice. In a moment of quiet prayer we name places and people around the world that we are concerned for. Send your Holy Spirit to help them and give them strength and courage. Lord of love: Hear our prayer. We continue to pray for schools and colleges. Young people, families, friends and teachers are finding it tough right now, Lord. Please would you give them help and encouragement to keep on going. Please would you give creativity and energy for the tasks, hope for the future. Help them to join up with others and find strength in community. Lord of love: Hear our prayer.
Lord of love: Hear our prayer. We remember all those who are ill at this time: for those in hospital and at home and for all those recovering, especially if they are missing the support and companionship of loved ones. We also pray for those suffering in other ways: those with mental health issues, money or work problems, the lonely and the grieving. In a moment of quiet prayer we name those we know. Send your Holy Spirit upon them and surround them with your healing love. Lord of love: Hear our prayer. A prayer for myself. Make me resilient, Lord. Give me a faith that lasts, that survives the knocks. When things go wrong, or don’t work out, may I know you still. Place in me a quiet and undeniable knowledge of you, so that, whatever comes, I will always say: My God endures. Lord of love: Hear my prayer. Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, The Lord's PrayerAs our Saviour taught us, so we pray, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, The PeaceWe are all one in Christ Jesus. We belong to him through faith, OffertoryPlease let us consider our calling as God’s church in this location, and during this season of fog and uncertainty. We are so grateful for your gifts and donations that enable us to serve our local communities and support other churches in Winchester Diocese. Reflecting on Holy CommunionWe are not able to offer Communion in church at this renewed time of lockdown. However you may still like to take time to reflect on what it means to each of us that Jesus gave his own life that we might live life in freedom. 1 Corinthians 11: 23 - 2623For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: the Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,24and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, ‘This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.’25In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.’26For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. O God, whose beauty is beyond our imagining HymnBe thou my vision, O lord of my heart
BlessingThe Lord Jesus Christ, And the blessing of God almighty the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
