Welcome

CandleFor those who would like to read through a service in their own time, we are providing a shortened service for you to follow: with the readings, prayers and a recording of the talk.

You may like to light a candle as a reminder that the love of God is like a light in our darkness

Spirit of the Living God

Welcome to worship

Welcome to our worship.
We continue to rejoice in our living Lord, alive for ever more.

Opening prayer

Faithful one, whose word is life:
come with saving power
to free our praise,
inspire our prayer
and shape our lives
for the Kingdom of your Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Words of celebration

Alleluia, Christ is risen
He is risen indeed. Alleluia!
Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He has given us new life and hope.
He has raised Jesus from the dead.

God has claimed us as his own.
He has brought us out of darkness.
He has made us light to the world.

Alleluia. Christ is risen.
He is risen indeed. Alleluia!

Confession

Christ died to sin once for all, and now he lives to God.
And this is God’s command:
to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ,
and to love one another as he commanded us.
Let us now take a moment to reflect on our lives
and bring our failures and burdens to him for forgiveness and healing.

You raise the dead to life in the Spirit.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

You bring pardon and peace to the broken in heart.
Christ, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.

You make one by your Spirit the torn and divided.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Absolution

May the God of love and power
Forgive you and free you from your sins,
Heal and strengthen you by his Spirit,
And raise you to new life in Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Collect

Risen Christ, by the lakeside you renewed your call to your disciples: help your Church to obey your command and draw the nations to the fire of your love, to the glory of God the Father.

Amen.

1 John 5:1-6

Faith in the incarnate Son of God

friends from the unsplash resources on A church near you1Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.5Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

6This is the one who came by water and blood – Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

Gospel - John 15:9-17

friends9As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.10If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.11I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.12My command is this: love each other as I have loved you.13Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14You are my friends if you do what I command.15I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.16You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit – fruit that will last – and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.17This is my command: love each other.

The Early Christian Profession of Faith

Let us declare our faith in the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Christ died for our sins
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he was buried;
he was raised to life on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures;
afterwards he appeared to his followers,
and to all the apostles:
this we have received, and this we believe.
Amen.

Prayers

A response to God’s love for us:
This is love, not that we loved God,
but that he loved us and sent his Son.
He is the sacrifice for our sins,
that we might live through him.
If God loves us so much
we ought to love one another.
If we love one another
God lives in us.

As we follow our Lord Jesus, who calls us friends,
we bring the needs of our brothers and sisters to him.

Dear Lord,
we pray for your Church around the whole world.
For leaders and for members,
that being known and being loved,
we share your love with others.
That in our ministry and mission
we may serve you with loyalty
and one another faithfully;
that others will see and believe
that you are Lord of all.
Amen.

We pray for your Church
that we may stand firm for peace with justice.
That we may not run away in danger,
but offer our lives to support the weak,
give a voice to the voiceless,
and protect the vulnerable.
May we think clearly,
serve earnestly,
love dearly.
Amen.

We pray for those who are sick,
in body or mind or spirit.
We pray for those who have lost loved ones.
We name them in the quiet now.
As you have promised to hear our prayer
bring light in the darkness
hope instead of despair
and joy in place of sorrow.
Amen.

We give you thanks for every generous gift received:
for true friendship,
for support through the pandemic,
for kindess and patience
and encouragement which has helped us keep going.
We thank you that you have chosen us
and we pray for the fruit of love that we bring forth
that we bless others and ourselves find abundant life in you.
We take a moment to remember all our blessings and thank you for them now.
Fill our hearts with your peace and contentment.
Help us to live freely and confidently
in trust and hope.
Amen.

The Lord's Prayer

As our Saviour taught us, so we pray,

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen

The Peace

The risen Christ came and stood among his disciples and said, ‘Peace be with you.’
Then were they glad when they saw the Lord. Alleluia.

The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.

Reflecting on Holy Communion

You may like to take time to reflect on what it means to each of us that Jesus gave his own life that we might live life in freedom.

communion wine - from pixabay (spiegelbilder)1 Corinthians 11: 23 - 26

23For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: the Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, ‘This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ 25In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ 26For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

Final Prayer & Blessing

God the Father by whose glory Christ
was raised from the dead,
strengthen you to walk with him
in his risen life;

… and the blessing of God almighty
Father, Son and Holy Spirit
be with us all, now and always.
Amen.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.
