Hart Foodbank

Hart Foodbank is a community project run by volunteers at Fleet Methodist Church, with branches at Hook Life Church and Darby Green, it was the 100th UK Foodbank (out of over 400). As part of the Trussell Trust Christian charity, we aim to demonstrate Gods' love for all in a practical and tangible way.

The foodbank is designed to provide food in a crisis and is not an ongoing source of help. Foodbank volunteers can direct the clients towards more permanent solutions through the benefit system, organise debt counselling when appropriate and perhaps personal counselling. Food is donated by individuals, church groups and food collection days at supporting supermarkets.

How the System Works

People in crisis can ask for a red voucher from agencies, such as Social Services, Citizen's Advice, Lions Community Store, Children's centres, GP Surgeries and this Benefice. They will assess the client's needs and give the voucher to exchange for food. The person then presents the voucher at the Foodbank where food is supplied for each family member, sufficient for 3 days. The food is non-perishable for easy storage and is nutritionally balanced. Whatever the reason for the crisis, we offer non-judgemental support, a listening ear and perhaps a prayer if that is wanted.

During the Coronavirus Pandemic

The foodbank is operating at Fleet Methodist Church, St Barnabas Darby Green; and with Life Church Centre Hook open for deliveries only - contact 07849198179.

We're observing 2m social distancing and cleanliness. Please respect that our volunteers are having minimum contact with delivery drivers, donors, collectors and clients. As key workers we need to stay safe to serve people in need. I'm very grateful to all who give their time and keen to keep our shielding volunteers at home. We are hoping to open another centre in Odiham.

"We have just taken delivery of our food parcel and we are over the moon with what you have found for us. Thanks is just too small a word. We cannot put into words how grateful we are."

Hart Hub partnership

When people call the Hart Hub helpline: 03333704000, this is run by Hart District Council, one choice of help may include food from Hart Foodbank.

Taking Stock

Many collection points have closed, so we have new outlets: Morrison's Fleet, Waitrose Fleet, Church on the Heath Fleet, Fleet Methodist Church, Yateley Co-op, St Barnabus Darby Green, Everseley Stores, Life Church Hook, Tesco Hook, Odiham Co-op and St John's Hartley Wintney. Each week since mid March, Morrisons and Tesco are donating hundreds of kilos of food to our store. This means we have had fewer shortages and we've been able to keep up with the extra demand caused by the Covid 19 crisis. We have fed 100% more people than we did this time last year. Thank you! Trussell Trust have agreed that we can use British Gas drivers for a number of our deliveries. So helpful!

The Kindness of Strangers

During April alone, we've received over £700 in personal monetary donations. The lovely Rotary Clubs: Hook&Odiham Rotary plus Hart have each donated £500. This enabled us to top up our stock, and we've always had plenty of dried pasta, tinned tomatoes and loo rolls since forever! Not for sale!! We've received a generous donations of £11,000 from Vivid Homes, £1,000 from SERCO, £400 fromPrice Systems Ltd.

What can I do?

Following on from generosity during Harvest season, the local foodbank is not currently asking for further food donations at this week. You can however, donate money.
